The standards and requirements of which a good student should be aware

The latest decree of the Côtes du Rhône Villages appellation issued on the 12 th February 1999 imposed a new set of rules which are very strict and precise. The Côtes du Rhône Villages Cairanne will be made respecting the following conditions :

- Designated parcels of land and soil type : the area of land entitled to the appellation the commune of Cairanne,
- Strictly controlled grape varieties and blending,
- A maximum volume of wine per hectare of 42 hl/ha,
- A fixed method of pruning and training the vines on low wires or " en gobelet",
- A fixed minimum level of alcohol 12,5% volume for reds and 12% for white and rosé wines,
- All wines to be submitted for scientific analysis and control,
- An approved approach to tasting the wines of Cairanne

Encépagement : allowed or designates grape varieties


For red wine :
o Grenache 50% minimum
o Syrah et/ou Mourvèdre 20% minimum
o Other permitted grape varieties allowed for the Appellation Côtes du Rhône, up to 20%

For rosé wine :
o Grenache 50% minimum
o Syrah et/ou Mourvèdre 20% minimum
o Other permitted grape varieties allowed up to 20%, all white varieties up to 20% of Grenache, Clairette, Marsanne, Roussanne, Bourboulenc, Viognier).

For white wine :
o Grenache blanc, Clairette, Marsanne, Roussanne, Bourboulenc, Viognier, other white wine grape varieties permitted up to 20%.
