The Syndicate of the wine makers of Cairanne was created in 1929. In the same year the Cairanne wine making Coopérative and the greater Syndicate of the wine makers of the Côtes du Rhône were founded.
At this historic moment, a small group of Cairanne wine producers, lead by Mr Rieu, wished for a better future. They determined on several objectives, designed to foster viticultural interests, working towards the recognition and acceptance of the ideas of "appellation contrôlée". Wines should be from a controlled provenance, to ensure excellence in the standards of production and promotion of wine. They adopted the approach of Baron Leroy, the famous organiser of the appellation rules in Châteauneuf du Pape, the first of its kind in France. These were part of an original project to promote quality assurance in wines designated as "village" quality.
